Beware of the Wrong Kind of Ab Exercises

Exercising Incorrectly Can Do More Harm Than Good

I just wanted to write a warning about doing abdominal exercises incorrectly. No matter how badly you want that ripped set of abs, it's not worth injuring your back.

You have to remember that for each set of muscles in the body, there is a corresponding set that has the opposite action. The two sets balance each other out, if you will. The balancers for your abdominal muscles are the muscles in your lower back.

Very few people regularly exercise their lower back muscles. This means that they are weak in much of the population. This is one of the reasons that lower back injury is the leading cause of work loss injuries in the United States.

Doing extensive exercises to lose your belly fat and tone your abs can put tremendous extra strain on the muscles of your back if you don't do corresponding exercises to strengthen them at the same time.

Read this article on wikiHow to see what I mean. And you should always consult your physician before starting any exercise regimen.
